HIPAA (Federal)
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act sets national standards for the protection of individually identifiable health information (PHI). It gives patients rights to access, amend, and receive an accounting of disclosures of their records.
Texas HB 300 / Texas Medical Records Privacy Act
Texas law expands upon HIPAA with stricter definitions of "covered entities" and mandatory employee training. It also grants Texas patients the right to obtain electronic copies of their records within 15 business days.
